Custodian Dick Slakes | | Meet our Staff | Daniel Jones - Senior Pastor Pastor Dan is a graduate of Houghton College (2003) where he majored in religion and minored in education and Princeton Theological Seminary (2006) where he completed his Masters of Divinity. He grew up on a dairy farm with four other siblings and is fond of trips back to the farm, especially when he can sit on a tractor for a few hours. Pastor Dan enjoys hunting, fishing, basketball, and other group sports. He also likes to do wood working and other hands on activities (including a few things in the kitchen). The one thing he cannot stand is watermelon. Although his main focus has often been leading worship, Dan was always involved with teaching children's Sunday School, helping to lead V.B.S. programs, and working with the children during mid- week programs. Performing as a Gospel Magician for 25 years, he has had the opportunity to lead many children to Jesus Christ. What a joy! Dan and his wife, Lisa have been married for 36 years, and have two wonderful daughters and 5 grandchildren. Dan didn’t grow up in a Christian home, but came to the Lord after being married for a few years. Shortly after his conversion, he began taking classes at the Buffalo School of the Bible. A few years later, he attended Elim Bible College. After moving to the Fillmore/Houghton area, Dan felt called to complete the Wesleyan educational ministry program, and has now finished nearly all of the requirements for ordination. Dan considers it an awesome blessing to have the privilege of partnering with parents to help nurture the faith of children. Praise our wonderful Lord! Dan is convinced that 6 cups of coffee in the morning is the key to World peace (at least in his world). | | Heather Mouw - Office Manager Heather is a graduate of Houghton College with a major in Elementary Education and Psychology. She was an elementary teacher before she and her husband Steve (whom she met at Houghton) had their first child. She enjoys sewing and quilting, reading, camping, and spending time with her family. She has three children and wishes they would never grow up because she enjoys having them home and attending all their extra-curricular events. One of the things that is guaranteed to make her smile is peanut m&m’s. | | Dick Slakes - Custodian In 2000, Dick retired from UPS as a package car driver after 30 years with the company. His wife, Debbie, and two of their grown children, Dan & Amanda, have lived in Avon for 11 years. He began working at AWC in 2002. His interests, to name a few, are centered on restoring his old house, enjoying his family and being involved in his church, Elim Gospel Church in Lima. Dick also likes to listen to conservative talk radio and would like to serve our country as a minute man on our southern border. |
